The UT Tree Improvement Program does not conduct research on trees that have been genetically engineered using molecular methodologies. The program uses a combination of traditional breeding, testing, and selection to genetically improve trees. Cooperative projects do exist with molecular biologists, but are directed toward basic research objectives and not transformation experiments to insert foreign genes.
